NEW ORLEANS, Feb. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Whitney National Bank today announced the appointment of John M. Turner, Jr. as Executive Vice President, Eastern Region, which encompasses banking territories in Mississippi, Alabama and Northwest Florida. Turner has served as a Senior Vice President at the Whitney since 1994.
"John has been a strong leader, building the Whitney brand within the Eastern Region for several years, always with an absolute understanding of the unique businesses and communities we serve," said William L. Marks, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Whitney. "With his proven ability to drive growth in customers and revenue, John will continue to set the standard in providing business development opportunities, outstanding customer service and local decision making power to businesses and consumers across the Gulf Coast."
With over 21 years of banking experience, Turner began his career at the Whitney in 1994, as President, Alabama Region. In 2000, Turner was named Eastern Region Executive. Before becoming a Whitney Banker, Turner held several senior positions at AmSouth Bank in both the retail and business divisions. Turner also holds a Bachelor of the Arts degree from the University of Georgia.
Community involvement has been a hallmark of Turner's career and he was recognized in 2004 by the Association of Fundraising Professionals when he was awarded the Lillian C. McGowin Outstanding Volunteer Civic Leader Award. Contributing to his community presence are associations with several civic and community organizations, including Chairman of the United Way Board of Trustees, past-Chairman of the Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce, past Chairman and current Board member Mobile Area Education Foundation, a graduate of Leadership Alabama and past board member of Leadership Mobile. He also serves as a board member of the Mobile Infirmary Foundation Board, Gulf Coast Exploreum Science Center, America's Junior Miss, University of Alabama Board of Visitors, St. Paul's Episcopal School and as a member of the Selection Committee for the J.L. Bedsole Foundation Scholars Program. Additionally, he is a member of the Mobile Rotary Club and a past board member of the Mobile Area Urban Bankers Association.
